A Mindful Guide to Bringing Joy to Your Life

As the wise Dalai Lama once said – Happiness is not something ready-made, it comes from your own actions. Sometimes, the key to feeling joyful is spreading joy all around you. Many of us let the outside factors tackle with our happiness and our mood, which is an amateur mistake. Having a bad day, and not being in the greatest mood is not a reason not to smile, laugh or think positively. Even though you won’t believe in it, you’ll be spreading an aura of happiness around you. So, what are the things we could do to make our everyday full of joy?

Do more of the things you love

Do you enjoy reading a book or a magazine in your favourite café? If that’s the case, you should definitely do it. Always try to do the things you love, and most importantly, always find the time to do them. Try reorganizing your schedule so that you can fit the small things that make you happy in it. Not only will this make you a lot happier, it will also give you a sense of fulfilment for that day, and we all know how desperately we need to feel that.

Happy thoughts, people!

One of the best activities for boosting your positivity is showing gratitude for all the small things you have that make you feel happy. Not only will this make you happier, it will also improve your relationships with yourself and other people, make you a better person, and even motivate people around you to do the same. Moreover, always be an optimist, even when it seems impossible. Optimistic people tend to have bigger self-confidence which leads to increased productivity. So, always start your day with positive thinking, hugging the first person you see, laughing and smiling.

Don’t miss the chance to say “thank you” and “please”

Every person in the world likes to hear these two phrases – even you. So, be that person. Moreover, pay people small compliments. They are very special, important and they can mean a lot to us. They make us smile and feel good about ourselves. Also, paying someone a compliment can not only make their day, but it can also make yours. What is also important is to learn how to receive a compliment. Blush and say “thank you”.

Embrace love

Love is one of the main reasons for feeling both happiness and sadness. However, if you have love in your heart, you’re halfway there for being a very positive person, so it’s very important to know how to channel it. If you’re, let’s say, in a long-distance relationship don’t be sad because of the miles between the two of you; be grateful as you have something that’s so strong it survives such a big distance. By doing so, you’ll motivate yourself to change that, step by step. Feel the love you have in your heart, as it can make any other aspect of your life better.

Dance more often

Come on, how can anyone feel sad while listening to Pharrell’s “Happy”? According to scientists, dancing is one of the fastest ways to make yourself feel happier. A research conducted in Poland compared people’s moods before and after dancing around a bit. Another, perhaps an even more important study conducted in Greece showed that women who survived breast cancer felt better about themselves and started looking at the whole experience with brighter eyes after engaging in a group dance activity. So, start your day with your favourite upbeat tune and shake that bottom for those 3 – 4 minutes.

Bottom line – always be happy and grateful. That way, you’ll show respect to your mind and body, which you most definitely deserve.
