How to plan a romantic honeymoon in Paris: the capital of love

The very idea of a romantic honeymoon in Paris raises the spirits and the senses alike. Paris! The city of lights and the capital city of lovers that brings thousands of people from all over the world to see if they can capture some of the city’s stardust for themselves.

While every bride will enjoy her honeymoon with her husband, the small matter of the wedding has to be attended to first. After they have thoroughly investigated suitably luxurious wedding locations near Paris and made the necessary arrangements, they will concentrate on one of the most significant milestones of their lives.

Only afterwards, when their friends and relatives have departed and they have finished removing the last of the confetti from their hair, can they begin to contemplate the splendid adventure that awaits them – a honeymoon in Paris.

Sacre-Coeur and Montmartre

A universal city with literally something for everyone’s tastes and budgets, Paris does have several major attractions and areas that it would be negligent to avoid while enjoying the very peak of wedded bliss.

The hill and surrounding district of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement of Paris have long laid claim to being the beating bohemian heart of the city. If the magnificent galleries, academies, and museums are the brain then surely Montmartre is its soul.

Stairways to heaven

There are several routes up the cobbled streets to the peak of the 130m hill depending on one’s fitness and enthusiasm but as long as you keep ascending then you are going in the right direction.

There are many romantic side-street cafes, bars, and restaurants to sample some of the famous Parisian delicacies en route but save space in your stomach and lungs for when you do reach the top as your breath will be taken away by the view.

The world-famous Basilica of Sacre-Coeur adorns the crest of the hill with its white marble acting as a beacon but to turn around and gaze across the city is to know contentment. Sitting hand in hand on the steps with your new husband or bride beside you in silence at sunset is to know to know true contentment and happiness.

Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter

Descending back into the city will take you close to the historic Moulin Rouge and within the shadow of the heart of gothic romance, the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Crossing the Seine on any of the bridges adorned with locks to symbolise the unbreakable connection of the heart between lovers, will let you experience for yourselves the sultry heat of the Latin Quarter.

Art for lovers

Lovers of art will also be in seventh heaven in the area as they are within an easy walking distance of the Pompidou Centre, the Musee d’Orsay and the Louvre with the immortal smile of the Mona Lisa awaiting within.

A romantic river cruise down the Seine in sunshine or moonlight will be remembered for the rest of your lives and can bring you very feet of the symbol of Paris itself, The Eiffel Tower.  Ascend the 324m structure and gaze toward the home you will return to with a heart full of warm memories of the time you have spent in the capital of love.
