Things to Consider Before Trying to Lose Weight

If you’re looking to lose a few pounds, no doubt you’ll be thinking of overhauling your lifestyle. This usually entails changing your diet and implementing an exercise regime. There are some things that you should do before trying to lose weight which will help you on your journey. The last thing anybody wants is to have to stop and start with their new routine, so prepare first!

Clear out the Cupboards
source
This is a big one. If you’re serious about sticking to a healthy lifestyle you need to get rid of any remnants of your old one. You may be full of motivation now, but three weeks in if there’s temptation in your cupboards you could break. Avoid this situation completely by only stocking your cupboards full of things you can eat. Swap any crisps and chocolate for healthy nuts. Similarly, try and eat more fresh food and cook from scratch. If you set your cupboards up properly before starting to try to lose weight, you're more likely to succeed.

Rewards
source
Set yourself out a list of rewards for every goal you hit. Rather than your goals being about the numbers on the scale, make them about your overall health and fitness. Reward yourself for running a certain distance and for eating healthily for the whole week. A reward should be something small that inspires and motivates you to carry on with your journey. It could be some new clothes, possibly in a smaller size! Or even a cinema ticket. Whatever it is, give yourself a pat on the back, and acknowledge when you’re doing well.

Throw Out Your Old Scales
source
Invest in a new set of scales. You’ll need the most accurate bathroom scales to properly record how much weight you're losing. Make sure you weigh yourself on the same day and time each week. Mornings are best.  This way you’ll get the most accurate reading possible. WiFi scales are good as they’ll upload your results for you.Which means it’s far easier to keep a log of your progress. Don’t weight yourself with clothes on either, this could add more than you’d think to your weight.

Buy Yourself Workout Gear
source
Definitely get some workout clothes you love that will fit in your gym bag. Whether they fit well or have an amazing design, whatever it is, you need to want to wear them. This will give you that little spark of motivation on days you really can’t be bothered to go to the gym or workout. Little things make a big difference.

Consult a Doctor
source
Before you change anything drastic and get started on your journey, get your doctor’s blessing. They may have some good advice about how much exercise you should be doing to start with. Your doctor will be aware of the importance of not overdoing it, to begin with. They’ll be able to give you some helpful hints about how to lose weight healthily.

  1. Ah, losing weight... my forever goal! Haha. I would love to be able to do that first tip about stocking the cupboard with healthy options... but that would have to wait for the next grocery trip. And I can only wish healthy food don't cost so much more than regular food. Oh, and it doesn't really help that I don't eat veggies. Oops. ^_^;

  2. I think the motivation and the drive should be the one of the most important things you have to consider. If someone is not that pushed well enough then, I guess others will fall apart. Decluttering fatty foods would definitely be one of the keys to success because you will be forced to eat healthily.
