It is one of those things which everybody has to consider at some point. Knowing your options when it comes to contraception is something which everyone has to come to terms with. The truth is, there are now so many possibilities that it is not necessarily a cut and hard choice. Increasingly, as time goes on, there are more and more contraceptive methods. You would be forgiven for not knowing everything there is to know about all of them or even the majority of them. With that in mind, we have put together this guide on contraception. In this guide, we will look at the most popular contraceptives, along with their pros and cons. The aim is for this to help you make the right decision for you. With that in mind, let’s dive right in.

The Condom
This is often the first that most people think of when they think of contraceptives. It also happens to be the most commonly used, after all, this time. The main benefit to the condom is probably its ease of use. Regardless of conditions, if there is a condom to hand, you can be relatively sure that you are protected. However, the truth is that the condom is nowhere near as effective as other contraceptive methods. On average, the condom is only 82 & efficient. This figure might seem high, but compared to other methods, it is far from it. The condom, it is agreed, is best used as an extra layer of protection, with other contraceptives already being in place.

IUD
The IUD often referred to as the coil, is another method of contraception which is now gaining considerable interest. In recent years, the use of the coil has grown exponentially. The main reason for this is clear: it is an incredibly useful method which requires little effort. At an effectiveness level of 99%, it is one of your safer options. What’s more, once you have had it implanted, you don’t have to worry about remembering it. This is often the main failing of other methods, so that is a huge weight off your shoulders. One problem with the IUD, however, is that certain brands have been known to cause other health issues. Look at this Essure lawsuit by way of example.

The Pill
The pill is now the second most commonly used contraceptive worldwide, after the condom. It is not too difficult to work out why that might be the case. It is considerably more efficient than many other methods, and it allows the user some level of control. One of the other main benefits of taking the pill is that you can use it to control your menstrual cycle. Women all over the world have been using it for this reason alone for many years now. However, it is not as effective a contraceptive as certain others, such as the IUD. Nonetheless, it is a viable alternative for those who enjoy a little more control in their lives.
