The Secrets To Having Youthful Skin For Longer

Recently, I shared a post about how this summer is going to be hot and because of that, we need to take extra care of our skin. Continuing with the theme of skincare, today I am talking all about aging and how we can keep our skin looking youthful for longer. We know that aging is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to postpone it. After all, the longer our skin is smooth, firm and wrinkle-free, the better.
The good news is that thanks to advancements in skincare and cosmetics, keeping your skin looking young is easier than ever before. From creams and serums to cosmetic treatments, we can hold off the signs of aging for twice as long as we used to be able to. Pretty impressive, right?

Aging starts in our mid to late twenties and hits full force by our mid-thirties, which is why the earlier you start anti-aging care, the better. However, even if you’re in your forties, that doesn’t mean it’s too late. There’s both preventative care to take advantage of, and products and treatments that wind back the clock. So either way, there are various ways you can give your skin that more youthful look that you’ve been dreaming of.
Want to know the secrets of having youthful-looking skin for longer? Keep reading as all is about to be revealed!
Cleanse morning and night
You most probably cleanse your skin each evening before bed to remove your makeup and grime build up from the day, but what about in the morning? Overnight, your skin will be coated in oils, dirt, and dead skin cells, which can cause free radical damage. This damage can weaken the skin, making it more prone to the signs of aging. So if you want to keep your skin looking younger for longer, you need to cleanse it in the morning as well as the evening.
When you wake up, before doing anything else, use a gentle cleanser to wipe your skin clean. Avoid cleansing wipes as these tend to move the dirt and grime around, instead of wiping your face clean. It’s best to use a cleansing water and cotton wool pads, as these work best when it comes to cleansing your skin. A word to the wise, make sure to select a cleanser that’s made for your skin type. Else it can cause irritation that can lead to skin damage.
Exfoliate two to three times a week

Younger skin only requires exfoliation once a week, but as our skin starts to age it’s needed more often. When we age, the speed at which our skin regenerates slows, as skin cells take longer to grow. This means that often, our skin is coated in dry, dead skin cells. Leading to our faces looking dull, instead of having that healthy glow of youthful skin. The good news is that by exfoliating your skin, you can remove dead skin cells and encourage skin cell growth.
Exfoliation also helps to make your skin look and feel healthier. When it comes to choosing a method, the most popular option is the use of sugar scrubs. However, that’s not the only way to exfoliate your skin; you could also opt to undergo microdermabrasion. This is a specialist type of exfoliation that can remove age spots, make wrinkles less visible and reduce the appearance of scars. How it works is that tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin, exfoliating it. This leaves the skin red and a little sore, but after 24 hours your skin will be healed and healthy again.
Wear sunscreen every single day
This should go without saying, and yet far too many of us skip this vital step. The number one cause of premature aging is sun damage, which is why if you want youthful skin, you need to be wearing sunscreen every single day. You might think that on cold, cloudy days, you don’t need sun protection, but that’s not the case.
What causes skin damage is the sun’s UV rays, and these are present even on cold days. That’s why it’s important to where SPF protection every day, to reduce you risk of early onset ageing caused by sun damage. You can choose to apply sunscreen each morning or you can use makeup or face cream that has SPF protection built into it. The fact of the matter is, if you want skin that stays looking youthful longer, you need to be wearing sunscreen whenever you go outside.
Use oils not just creams

Anti-aging serums and retinol creams have become the next big thing in anti-aging skincare. But they’re not all it takes to keep your skin from aging; there are other options as well. Yes, these treatments can be fantastic, however, some of them can cause skin irritation and soreness. That’s why a lot of women are now swapping to using oils instead. Both sesame and coconut oil have amazing anti-aging properties and are a great option for keeping your skin hydrated. As well as keeping the wrinkles at bay and giving your skin that youthful look that you desire.
The great thing about oils is that they travel further into the skin than creams can, which means every layer of the skin benefits from the hydration. This helps to keep skin healthy and wrinkle-free for longer, as the more hydrated skin is kept, the less prone to wrinkles it is. Almond oil, for example, is high in vitamins E and A and because of this promotes skin cell regeneration. As well as offering deep levels of hydration and natural UV protection.
Put your faith in cosmetic treatments
For a quicker alternative to achieving more youthful skin, it’s worth considering cosmetic treatments. The great thing about cosmetic options is that thanks to advancements in science, most are non-invasive and painless. Plus, they work wonders when it comes to getting rid of the signs of aging quickly and effectively.
Of course, cosmetic treatments do come with certain risks, depending on what it is that you opt for. However, most are fairly safe. Dermal peels and botox, for instance, tend to be low risk as well as effective. Plus, they’re quick treatments that are pain-free and affordable. You can discover more at DavidHalpernMD.com/service/botox/ about the different treatment options. Not everyone is a fan of cosmetic treatments but when it comes to anti-aging, they’re incredibly useful.
Cut sugar out of your diet
You don’t have to cut all sugar out of your diet but processed white sugar has been linked to premature aging, so it’s a good idea to cut this out. Studies have shown that processed sugars are linked to early onset aging. The cause of this is glycation, a natural process where sugar in the bloodstream attaches to proteins to create harmful molecules. Most at risk from these molecules are collagen and elastin, the fibres that keep the skin elastic and firm.
The best thing you can do to prevent damage to your body’s collagen and elastin is cut out white sugar altogether. Instead, swap to brown sugar and natural sweeteners, like Agave and maple Syrup. These give you the sweetness for tea, coffee and a range of foods, without causing damage to your skin cells. Trust me; it’s worth making the swap - your skin will thank you for it.
Don’t skip the eye cream

The skin under our eyes is the thinnest on our body, which means that it’s five times as likely to develop wrinkles. It’s easy to think that eye cream is unnecessary but it’s really not. Your face cream can’t protect under your eyes from the signs of aging because it’s not made to. If you want to prevent the delicate skin under your eyes from aging quicker than the rest of your face, you need a good quality eye cream or serum.
When it comes to picking a cream of serum for under your eyes, it can be hard to know what to opt for. Your best option is to head to your local department store and get samples from a range of stands. That way you can try out all the different creams and serums and see which one is most suitable for you. If you’re still not sure, the best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your dermatologist and see what they recommend. They may suggest a cream that you’ve never heard of, or may recommend an alternative such as a facial oil. Whatever product you opt for, just make sure to use it regularly.
There you have it, everything that you need to know about keeping your skin looking younger for longer. It may take some trial and error to see what works for you, but if you want youthful skin, it’s more than worth it. The more care you put into your skin, the more likely it is to stay looking good for longer. So taking the time and effort to research the best options and find the best products is definitely worth doing.
