The Home Maintenance Jobs We Love To Hate

Why is it things go wrong in the home when we’re just too busy to deal with it? One of the reasons for this is that we tend to put off those maintenance tasks we don’t like very much. We’ve always got something else we have to do! Of course, things eventually break down and we’re left with a huge repair bill. As much as we hate to give up quality time with our families, it is essential we devote some energy and attention to issues around the home.

Plumbing is one of those areas that we hate having to deal with. It’s stinky, dirty, and wet! But blocked drains and guttering can cause so many problems with the house. Damp and mold spores can begin to form. And that revolting aroma that emanates from the sink can’t be ignored forever. Often, all that is required is a cleaning solution flushed through the waste pipes. However, a blocked toilet can cause very serious problems.

If your toilet isn’t flushing through, you will have to stop using it until the system is cleared. You may need to call in the professionals. Having no toilet in the house can be more than a little inconvenient! Drain and Plumbing professionals can often get the blockage cleared, but it may cost you an excess on your insurance policy.

Lots of us struggle with the garage door. It seems to be just one of those things we put up with. But over time, the problems can worsen. Cold spells, hot weather, and damp can wreak havoc with the fittings and mechanism. A little maintenance each season to keep the system working smoothly could be all you need. Of course, there will come a time when parts need replacing. You can find the items you need for brands like Gibidi online, but you may also need someone to help you install them.

How often do you service your window handles and hinges? Windows take a lot of punishment from the weather. While most of us are happy to clean them, few of us take the time to ensure the handles, locks, and hinges are performing well. The temperature outside is potentially twenty degrees away from the inside temperature. You can understand that these things can swell, dry, and crack. A little care and attention each season can ensure your home is safe and secure.

Our fridges can sometimes be the source of a lot of problems. If your fridge broke down, would you be able to cope? Fortunately, they can be replaced quite quickly and easily. But a breakdown could be the least of your worries. Fridges can harbor all kinds of nasty germs and bacteria. They’re not particularly easy to clean, and often get forgotten. Try to schedule in a deep clean of your fridge every month to ensure nothing nasty is lurking in there.

Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs are all tasks we can happily live without. Sadly, we need to keep on top of them to avoid expensive bills or hazards to our health and safety. What have you put off for too long?
