5 US Cities Every Family Should Visit

Choosing a vacation destination that will keep younglings, teens and adults entertained can be a hard task, but the U.S. is home to many of such family-friendly cities. The following spots have everything a family might want from theme parks to museums and natural beauties. From all 50 states, here are the top five cities that stand out as the ultimate family vacation spots.

Miami, Florida

Most people think Miami is only reserved for beach parties, clubs, and other adult-only activities, but it’s actually a great spot for a family vacation. The city has many educational attractions, many museums, zoos, aquariums, and cruises all family members will love. Miami is filled with great attractions for animal lovers, so you must pay a visit to Seaquarium, hit Jungle Island, and finish your educational trip with a visit to The Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science if you’re a family that loves all living things. If you don’t like organizing visits by yourself (Miami is a big city, so this can be quite complicated) you can always opt for Miami city sightseeing tours and enjoy sightseeing cruises, city tours, and Everglades adventures. And don’t even worry about hidden fees and cancelation issues—their customer service is excellent!

Chicago, Illinois

The best thing about Chicago is that you can do many fun things with your family all five minutes walking time from one another (perfect for young kids). In one day you can hit a family-perfect trio of attractions like the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and the Adler Planetarium. These top attractions will keep your children mesmerized for hours. Just some 15 minutes away by car is a super fun Chicago Children’s Museum with a sound playground, dinosaur exhibits, and an art studio. If you have some leftover energy, spend the day in Lincoln Park Zoo and spot bears, giraffes, and hippos.

Portland, Oregon

From renting a bike and enjoying its beautiful waterfront to many world-renowned museums, Portland offers a plethora of family-friendly activities. Make sure to visit the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (kids will love to explore its submarine exhibit) and Portland Children’s Museum. Nature lovers will love Forest Park and its Lower Macleay Trail where you can see small animals and birds. The 5-mile trail ends at the historic Pittock Mansion that offers stunning city views. Before you hit the trail, visit the Portland Farmers Market and pick up some picnic items. Thanks to its laid-back vibe, this city is perfect for family vacations.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Who would know that a city known for its unhinged Mardi Gras celebrations, dim jazz bars and other exotic activities can be a perfect place for a family adventure? But, New Orleans is perfect for kids since this city can erupt in dance and song at any moment. Audubon Zoo is a great spot for the entire family, and you can even see gigantic gators eat their dinner. Also, the city is home to Louisiana Children Museum in New Orleans City Park. Boarding a streetcar is also an exciting adventure for kids while parents can enjoy a relaxing ride through St. Charles Avenue lined with gorgeous trees and beautiful sites. The youngest of kids will also enjoy Storyland where they can see and meet their favorite book and fable characters.

San Francisco, California

Walt Disney Family Museum—need we say more. Every family loves a city with a Disney site. At this museum, you can find all about the fascinating life of Walt Disney, the man who brought so much joy to the entire world. The museum has 40,000 square feet of fun, interactive galleries, art exhibits and original drawings, cartoons, daily movie screenings, and more. You also can’t miss the California Academy of Science which is an aquarium, natural history museum, and planetarium all in one. For an iconic San Fran adventure, ride a cable car and enjoy the city. You can also explore your kids’ creative side at a Creativity Museum.

Next time you’re planning for a perfect family vacation, look no further than these five cities. No matter the age, all family members will have loads of fun.
