What's Really Stopping You Getting Out Of Debt?

Image

Do you find you are continually scratching your head wondering how after all of the preventative measures you take to not spend money or to get out of debt, that you are still finding yourself struggling to make payments? There may be some things that are stopping you getting out of debt that you don't actually realize. Believe it or not, there is such a thing as paying off debts in the wrong way, so here are some of the common mistakes people make when it comes to paying off their debt.

Procrastination
In other words, are you waiting before you can earn a bit more money so you can pay off more of your debt? It's a common mistake, especially if you think that a promotion is around the corner. But even if you aren't in a position for promotion, you can still start now. It means that by having the mindset to pay off money, it’s a better approach rather than waiting for a financial windfall. And besides, if your mindset isn't right, if you do earn more money, it may mean a bigger debt cycle for you down the line because you think you'll have more of an expendable income!

Paying Off All Your Debts At The Same Time
If you have more than one debt, for example, five credit cards, you will be trying to pay off all of them at the same time. However, if you focused your efforts on paying off one card, you will gain a lot more traction because more credit cards mean more interest, meaning higher payments overall. So think about smart ways to consolidate your debt, and there are plenty of sites like repair.credit that can help with this. You can start to be clever in regards to how you pay off your debt rather than just thinking you are doing the right thing by paying off all of your debts bit by bit. The interest rates alone will mean you are unlikely to dig yourself out of this hole.

A Lack Of Focus
If you're not focused and determined to pay off your debts, you will never get out of that debt pool, especially if you won’t prioritize paying off debt and are still reluctant to give up your one night out a week, which you could use by earning money at home or doing an extra job. And think about those little expenses, on the way to work, when filling up your gas tank, all those impulse purchases are going to add up. Mindset is the most important thing, and if you're not focused, you won't see any results anytime soon.

You Haven’t Automated Your Bills
Missing a payment by accident can incur late penalty charges. So if you are notoriously scatterbrained when it comes to paying off your bills, not only does automating your monthly debt shows you exactly what you've got free to play with financially, but it's one less thing to think about!

Debt is horrible whichever way you look at it. From 0% financing to your one credit card that you don't use. But if you find it has a terrible impact on your life you need to look at what could be stopping you getting out of debt and enjoying more financial freedom.

  1. Lack of focus and commitment are my two issues. This has already been an area I've felt like a slacker and I want to get better at. Procrastination is a close 3rd:)

  7. Actually you are right! Lack of focus and paying of our debt at the point of time is really important to get out of it. Otherwise we don't know what's going to happen in next minute. We have to change our mindset towards the thing.

  8. I've been going through a really rough patch so this was much needed. I'm very good at saving and budgeting, the problem is figuring out how to juggle multiple bills at once on a low income :/
