Comfortable Earning: 9 Ways to Make Money From Home

Imagine, for a moment, that you could earn a living for yourself without leaving your home. You wake up, put on a pot of coffee, and get to work - and you’re still wearing your pajamas. No daytime commute, no boring watercooler chat, no spending long days in an office that’s lit too brightly. Sounds nice, right? Well, there’s good news - not only is this possible, it’s possible in a number of ways! Below, we run through nine options for earning money from the comfort of your own property, none of which are overly complicated - they just require a leap of faith.

Teaching Your Talent

You have skills. We know this, because: everyone does! If you’ve been playing the guitar since you were eleven, then you have a talent that someone else would happily pay to have (unless you’re only twelve, of course). If you speak a foreign language, then you can teach other people how to speak a foreign language too. Actually, you don’t even necessarily need to have the talent to teach - you can make a decent income from teaching English as a second language. And for that, you just need...to be able to speak English like a native speaker.

Selling Your Old Gear

Did you know that the average American home has unused items worth more than $3000? And that’s not things like the television or microwave; that’s just the UNUSED items! So take a look around your home. Are there many things that you haven’t touched in six months or more? Then it might be worth setting up an eBay account and bringing home some extra bacon. You’re not using these things anyway, so you’re not going to miss them, and you’ll more than appreciate that extra cash in your bank account.

Upcycling

If you’re of a creative disposition, then you might want to consider upcycling. The premise is simple. You take an old item, sprinkle it with creative magic, and then sell it on for a tidy profit. An example would be buying an old table and touching it up with chalk paint. It’ll take all of a couple of hours, and you’ll have significantly improved the look. This process can be done with most anything, though; old t-shirts, lamps - anything that is old but salvageable. People are making a decent income this way; and, even better, it’s a fun way to make a living.

Dealing with Currencies

If you’ve got a computer, internet connection, and an ounce of intelligence, then you can make money from home by dealing in currencies. This is an option with traditional currencies, but you can also look at cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, which has exploded in recent years. Many people think that it’s complicated to get involved in this type of investment, but it’s not; indeed, you can be using bitcoin from home in no time at all. The exciting thing about this is that it looks like Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are going to be even more prominent in the future - so if you acquire this knowledge early on, you’ll always be ahead of the curve.

Build a Successful Website

Not the presence of the word ‘successful’ in the title. Anyone can make a website; to make a successful one is more difficult. But it’s possible, of course! The key is to, well, make it good - and to give people what they want. Choose a niche, and stick to it. If you’re continually putting out excellent work, then you’ll build a following, and eventually, you’ll have many ways to monetize your site.

Become an Assistant

Are you a skilled multi-tasker, who’s able to pay clear attention to detail, stay organized, and so on? Then you might want to look at becoming a virtual assistant. Essentially, you’ll be in charge of organizing someone’s life, answering phone calls, and so on. It’s not a job that requires a great deal of natural skill, just competence and professionalism.

Working on Fiverr

Can you write, design, code, or anything else? Then you might be able to sell your talents on platforms such as Fiverr and Upwork. You’ll connect with people who need something that you offer; you deliver the work, you get paid. It’s as simple as that! There’s no limit to how much work you can take, so if you’re a prolific worker with excellent feedback, it’ll be possible to earn a sizable income indeed, without leaving your home.

Renting Out Spare Room

You’ve got a home. Do you have a spare room? If you do, and you live in an area that’s even vaguely visited by tourists, you could have a viable Airbnb business up and running - and profitable - in no time at all. This isn’t just a matter of setting up a listing and waiting for the money to roll in, of course - your rooms will need “managing,” but if you’re generally a go-getter full of enthusiasm and energy, then there’ll be little holding you back. If not Airbnb, then take a look at just renting out your room full-time. This isn’t necessarily a money maker, but can be useful when it comes to paying those monthly bills!

Invest in a Course

Our last entry is a bit misleading, but it’s just as worthwhile. One of the greatest investments you can make is in yourself! As such, you’ll be putting yourself in the best position possible to get those higher paying jobs. So how do you do it? It’s simple. Find a relevant online course, get to work, and get that qualification. The money you make from it won’t necessarily come instantly, or even directly, but it will happen eventually.

Final Thoughts

In this digital, ever-changing world, there are more ways than ever to make a living for yourself without leaving the comfort of your own home. Indeed, the ones listed above aren’t all that time-consuming, so it’s possible that you could combine two, three, four, or more to create a sizeable income. Get to work, and see where it takes you.
